Remembering 9-11

Six years after the terrorist attacks that killed almost 3,000 Americans, how are you Remembering 9-11? Some schools in Utah have banned ceremonies about the event, saying they don't want to upset children too young to remember the attacks. At other events, like a citywide service in San Antonio today, others are gathering to honor the victims. Where are you finding the balance between moving forward and looking back? We want your comments.

On that morning I had just dropped off my daughter at school, she is now 7 going on 8 now.  I walked into my job and I remember everyone was around the TV in the doctor's office and I saw the video.  I was just shocked and sat on my chair.  My heart just broke into a million pieces and I started thanking God that I had my families and prayed for all those people and their families.

After all this time that has pasted I will never forget that day and I will always remember.

the real reason is that I am a peace nik.  I guess that makes me a nikker.

it was 6yrs ago today at 8:47am when the phone on my partner's desk ( that partner being my good friend Angus we laid to rest last week) . It was his wife screaming hysterically into the phone . She had been looking out an open window in their lower Village apartment when the scream of a jet much to low overhead was replaced by a tremendous crash ........ she could see the initial flames at WTC spring forth ......

Angus raised his voice to try and shout down her hysteria .....

"where is Colin ?"......

" go get him NOW ...... i'm on my way home "

Angus ran out door .....rest of us in stunned silence .....

Johnny Cahill picked up phone and called a close friend at Cantor Fitzgerald who picked up right away (amazingly) .........

said building had shaken like crazy , swayed , and they could see smoke out side the windows ........... he was waiting for security folks to show up who had already called to say 'stay put' ............ he of course never made it out ........

we all looked at each other and knew immediately that there would be no business that day and that we'd do best getting the hell out of dodge ....... we also knew there was no way on a crystal clear day this could be an accident and many of us were downtown in '93 for first attack ........ there was never a doubt in my mind .

as we walked out building , we froze looking at Grand Central ......... such a target ....... another partner flagged a cab and announced he was cruising up to harlem to 125th to catch whatever he could ...... we already envisioned power grid collapsing ......

we were on the platform up there by 9am .......traffic ewas so light ......... looking south , the massive pall of smoke was stunning ........ a train pulled in from up north full of commuters ....... some were reading Blackberries and begfinning to comprehend and we shouted to folks to get off and go home but they looked stunned ........

a few moment later a northbound train pulled in and we were out of there .

on train , all cell phones were out but few could get through ( traffice was too great )

amazingly , i got to my wife who already had TV on ......... she relayed to me what was happening ....i would announce to all in my car what was happening .....

i vividly recall her screaming that a helicopter had apparently hit the other building .....that there was a huge explosion ....... that both towers now on fire .............. as i announced this , you could see eye balls bulge and some pucker factor set in ......... what next .......
