Persepolis is an artistic animated movie about a young girl coming of age in Iran. It’s also aimed at adults with its scenes and commentary about the political strife in the Middle East that confuse young people trying to cope with it. Flashbacks are in muted black and white tones. Present day scenes are in color, and the entire film is animated. Voices of seasoned performers Catherine Denueve and Danielle Darrieux give the characters credibility, and the overall film is tasteful, not belligerent. Rated PG-13 and worth 3 stars.
