I passed up free Bacon!

BACON, BACON, BACON... there it was at a morning networking meeting that I went to on Friday.  And it was Free!  I love bacon.  I really do.  And Free Bacon....WHOA BABY!

So there it was, piles and piles of bacon, along with eggs, muffins, sweetrolls, etc.  I tried to justify it but the eggs were dripping with butter and the crispy...thick...wonderful smelling...bacon was just a no-no.

I felt like that dog in the commercial. "BACON, BACON, BACON", I kept saying to myself.

And like a Siren's song, those strips of crispy fried pork kept calling my name, "Milton, come on, just one slice.  Remember how we were there for you for all those years.  All those BLT's, All those Club Sandwiches.  All those Bacon Cheeseburgers. Come just one more slice, for old time sake"

I'ms surprised no one else could hear them.  But after drinking lots of water and trying to focus on  anything else, the bacon went away and I felt better.  I felt better because I had found the strength to avoid backtracking on all the progress I'd made.  And  that felt better than any bacon ever could!

Good Job Milton.  Step away from the smoked pork.  your post makes me think of a Simpsons episode.  Homer wanted to gain weight so that he would get disability and not have to work.  Before he ate anything he had to rub it on a paper towel.  If it made the paper clear, it was the window of opportunity!  We should do the same test but in reverse.  if it is clear... step away from the fat!

So we've got Milt and his bacon, Mickster and her potatoes, Laurie and her ice cream...I am seeing some great self-control out there.  And your stories really make me smile.  We'll get over the initial hump that makes this so difficult, and as we progress, we'll learn that 2 slices of bacon with our eggs is okay.  And a small scoop of mashed 'taters can fit in, and 1 scoop of the ice cream I gave you today can all fit...because they are in reasonable portions...and you are now working out.  So your body is used to actively burning calories...it's when that stops and the food really kicks in that we have a little problem!!!! :)

Keep it real guys!  You're doing great!

Way to go Miltie!!  I really think you should write a book!  You have such an awesome way of articulating yourself and keeping your audience engaged!!

Bacon is a tough one for sure!! I was at the grocery store yesterday and bacon's cousin - pork chops were calling out to me, but I walked on by and said "not today boys, not today!"  :)

Thanks for the nice words.  It's easy to write when you're passionate about something.   Bacon and I have had a good run for all these years.  I'll admit it we've had some good times together.   But, I guess the relationship just got a little "unhealthy".  And maybe someday I'll let bacon back into my life.  Right now, I'm going cold turkey...MMMMM Turkey!
