  • Having Fun Decorating With Paint

Decorating a room can get really expensive and time consuming. There is an extra room in my home that is now where two new kittens I just adopted will be living for a while. Boog and Elliott didn't really care what the room looked like but I thought it was a little to plain and non-inviting for my two new buddies. My son built them a fun jungle gym and I knew I needed an all natural feel in the room for the boys. All of the furniture in this room is very plain and very boring, there is a bed, a dresser, a bookshelf, and a desk, so we really needed to add something fun.

There was a sale at a local linen store so I went and bought what they called a bed in a bag. The neutral colors on the bedspread that I purchased were a great beginning for the transformation of this room. Spending a lot of money on this room was not in my budget right now so I decided to bring my creativity into the room and started looking around my home for ideas. There was some old Styrofoam in the garage left over from a project I never got around to and I have a lot of paints and brushes from past projects. There was also some old canvases in my garage that I decided to pull out and use.

The search was now on for other items to use for texturing the Styrofoam. It was amazing how many things I found around the home to use for texturing, tissue paper was a good base for the Styrofoam, just use some modge podge and a foam brush to adhere it to the styrafoam and let it dry overnight. After it is dry you can start painting it and adding more texture. There is a great product sold at your local craft store called texture magic. It is paint that is thickened and can be used to add different levels on an item. Next I found different items like q-tips, film containers, old paper, and different sized paint brushes to make designs on the styrafoam with paint.

When painting on the canvas you want to start with a base coat of white or off-white before you add colors. After the base coat has dried I squirted about six different colors that matched the bedspread onto the canvas and just grabbed a foam brush and started swirling it around on the canvas in all different directions. Then I took a q-tip and ran lines through the painting this added a thicker texture in some areas. Be sure to let all your projects dry overnight before trying to hang them. You can purchase hanger backs for your paintings at a local frame shop or craft store.

Another great idea is to paint the styrafoam or a piece of wood or even a canvas whatever color you want as a background and then take a hot glue gun and swirl hot glue all over the painted item. Let it dry and using a rag and some "Rub and Buff", rub the product all over the hot glue, it adds a really pretty finishing touch.

Just remember the best part about this project is that you can really get creative and have fun.

  • Keep the Kids Busy This Summer

Ok the kids have been out of school for almost a month now and with the Fourth of July just around the corner you need something to keep them busy. Well whether the kids are stuck inside because of rain, or becuase it is just to hot to go outside, here are 3 really fun crafts the kids will love to do. The first craft is actually a free craft the kids can do at Home Depot on Saturday July 5th from 10am - 12pm. Home Depot does a Saturday Kids Craft on the first Saturday of every month so check your local Home Depot for more information.

The second fun craft is a mosaic craft that the kids can really use their imagination with. Just take a paper plat, some modge podge, a sponge brush, a pencil, and some tissue paper. Draw a design on the back side of the paper plate. I drew a sun on mine. Next take the tissue paper and cut it into squares about 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch. Now you want to brush the modge podge onto the plate in small sections because it does dry quickly. Place the squares onto the modge podge covered plate in what ever order you would like. Once you have the whole plate covered with tissue paper brush one more coat of modge podge over the whole design to seal it.

The third project is a great patriotic craft. It is fun to do for the fourth of July but you can also fly it year around. The items you need are 1/2 thick red ribbon, 1/2 inch thick blue ribbon, 1/2 inch thick white ribbon, silver and white small pom poms, fabric glue, and a 12" long dowel rod. First you want to cut your ribbons. Cut the red ribbon into four 14 1/2 inches long strips, then cut three white, 14 1/2 inches long; seven blue, 10 1/2 inches long; three red, 24 inches long; three white, 24 inches long.

The next step you want to be sure to Leave a 1/2-inch overlap, attach the shorter red and white strips to the blue strips with the fabric glue, lay the blue strips on top. Glue the strips of ribbon to the dowel rod in a flag pattern, then cover the dowel rod with a blue ribbon. Now glue the pom poms to the blue area of the ribbon for the stars. If you have a metal door you can hot glue a magnet to the back side of the flag to hang it on the door. If you don't have a metal door or you want to hang it on the wall you can hot glue a piece of the ribbon to each end of the dowel rod to make a hanger.

Another tip for this craft is to purchase other summer colors of ribbon and make a summertime flag. You can find all of these fun crafts at your local JoAnn Craft stores. Just remember to get creative and have fun.

  • Hey Sean You are Looking Great!

Caught you on the show today and I can see your on the same path and looking healthier and wow! I think you look as if you are 60 days out from your perfect weight at this rate!  I would love to join you on your trip to the beach!  Still working on that!
  • Still on track :)

    Hi all!

I am not sure anyone is actually reading these blogs anymore; however I see that Belinda has blogged recently.  Big Smile HI Belinda!

I have been catching up with my life and completing different projects on my home.  I actually have the energy to start them and finish them now! I am still working out, just not to the same degree.  I have lost 9 lbs since the show ended - so basically averaging 2 lbs a week.  I am happy with this as I am enjoying losing weight, eating healthy, having some things I wasn't eating during the show, such as a small hamburger every once in awhile.  I know how to do this now and what caused me to become fat before and I don't want to go back there! Melanie and I are starting some more training in July.  I still have about 30-35 lbs left to lose and expect to reach my goal by the end of the year.

Milton is training to run in the Rock N Roll marathon in November - I believe he is doing the 1/2 marathon 13 1/2 miles.  :) Rock on Miltie!!

Would love to hear from everyone!! How's it going out there??

  • I am not a touchy feely sort but I have to say this!

This is a just a quick thank-you to my co-competitors and if I knew then what I learned from all of you I would of been the biggest loser!

Milton - How did you ever get through life with that "little boy" sense of humor and that sense of awe I would describe it as pure of heart!  You put into relationships more than you expect to get back!  Wow I dont usually meet people like that unless they are still kids, which I believe is why you won.   Heart wide open and full speed ahead!  Thanks for the chance to learn that from you.

Andrea - I feel so sorry I really did not get to know you till late in the show!  Such a wonderful personality and humor on a very naughty side and yet when I actually found out what you do at your job.... oh my God!  How do you do it?  I have so much respect for you!  You deal with delivering hard and very sad news on a daily basis and you come away telling me you gave them a chance and the tools to seek help.  All I could think was how can she do that I would be depressed!  But you told me you helped them get all the info to make the best decision about their lives.  You were so strong in saying you HELPED them.   I am the loser .... I should have made an effort to know you sooner.  So young and so wise.  Boy, you had me laughing so hard on Wednesday!  Thank you!

Michelle - You reminded me of myself so many years ago, you want so much for your family and you battle so me fights on a daily basis.  I catch a glimpse of your eyes sometimes and I remember feeling like that.  I think of you and what I sometime want to say to you is... YOU WILL GET ABOVE ALL OF IT!  You do not realise how strong you are and you will be successful in life because of all the things you are learning right now!  You are so lucky!  Plus you are drop dead gorgeous in every show or picture I have seen of you!   You will want these days back one day.

Earl - What a man!  Your determination blows me away!  I thought there was exagerations on your always being on the treadmill but OMG you ALWAYS were!  I believe I will hear about you doing the New York marathon one day!  Just having known you for such a short time I feel I did see an example of bravery, determination and a will of supernatural powers.  You are an example to me that you never never stop playing cards until life turns up the right cards!

Laurie - I know this is the last time you will be on this side of 200 and I see you so focused your goals are only a few months away.  But I have to hand it to you, your life is not of hold you are going at it full blast with that wonderful husband of yours!  What a future you have in store BUT what a life you have now... (although I still see you 2 with at least 5 kids)Surprise  Do you NOW know I am pulling your leg???

Sean - I feel you and I went off track somehow and for that I am truly sorry.  You are so constant!  Everyday you did everything with your wife and did not stray from your weight loss goals!  The constant purpose you run through your life endears you to me because loyalty and faithfullness is what you inspire in my life, whether to your marriage, health or your job!

Mickey - I did not get to know you well but I share lots in common with you.  From the blogs I see all your family and friends and all the support you have and think how very blessed you are!  You made us (girls) look great with your standing as the runner up!  To think a woman lost as much as you did in such a short time!  When you are ready to start training people, call me!  I would love to be your first trainee!!

Mei - At first I thought you were so shy and then I caught a flash of something in your eyes and I thought she is full of fun!  You are going to make such a beautiful bride!  You must send us all pictures!

What a ride guys!  Thanks and with that I want to tell you about something I saw a couple of weeks ago... I had parked a block away from the studio and was starting my car and noticed that for some reason Milton and Mickey were walking in thier blue team shirts towards where I was parked and I wondered where they were going because there were no other cars parked where I was....  They proceeded to pass my car parked at the curb and Milton was talking and Mickey was laughing and I watched as they kept going down the road and it hit me....  they were fitting in a work out and taking some LONG way around to their cars.  As I turned the corner Milton was still talking and waving his arm and Mickey was laughing.  Wow I turned the corner and headed to the office realizing they had found the key that worked for them and that was enjoying where ever they workout out and sharing it with a friend!  I knew I had met real winners!

    Thanks guys

  • AWESOME FINALE SHOW

Thank you SA LIVING - SPECTRUM & AVEDA for an awesome finale show!!

I graciously and thankfully accept 2nd place in the SA Living Biggest Loser contest!!

I have lost 48 lbs total which is 20.42 percent of my total body weight!! I am so excited and happy with the outcome and my performance during these last 13 weeks!  I hope I have been a positive example of a loving Christian throughout this entire process. I have tried to show a loving and honorable attitude even when times were tough.  For me having Jesus walk beside me has made this journey so much more bearable, achievable and rewarding.  God has shown me in so many ways how depending upon him is always the win-win situation.

Milton is an awesome man and has grown so much through this part of the journey it was an honor to see him take the win.  His confidence and self-esteem shows in his walk and his smile.  He is so modest and humble that he immediately shifted the attention from himself to someone else and that was very endearing. He took control of presenting the awards to Shelly, Leslie and Heather with such ease that you would have thought he worked in television instead of radio. He even remembered to thank Dawn Cole and mention she wasn't able to make the show. He may just have a TV career lurking in the background somewhere!! I look forward to a long and close friendship with him. I hope we will always be the M&M's.

Milton and I had decided a while back that we would celebrate the winner, no matter who it was, by going to lunch together after the show.  We had originally decided upon California Pizza Company and a beer, but when today arrived we both expressed that we did not want to have that.  So we decided on Sea Island and we were thinking we would have some southern fried catfish; however neither of us were able to order it, we both ended up with a grilled item and the request to add no extra oil or butter!! Big Smile  That was when we both realized we truly have morphed!

Thank you again everyone for your continued support during these last 13 weeks!!

You are all winners in my eyes!!

    Love – Mickster

Good luck Milton and the Black Team!!

    GO BLUE GO!!

    (oops....GO MICKEY GO!)
  • Oh no no no!

Milton and Michelle consider this your slap at the back of your head! ;}  I believe the whole "Journey" with WOAI's biggest loser program was to give us tools to START our new life!  I do not see any ending in sight this is just one HUGE begining for all of us.  I have no expectations other than I will steadily loose my pounds one by one until the day I reach my goal then and only then will this stage end and the new one begin!  So you 2 consider yourselves slapped and Cher's yelling at you SNAP OUT OF IT!  You have a job to do and that is to get healthy and live the life you were meant to!  I know mine has been on hold too long and dont have any to spare!
  • The most frightened I have ever been...

OMG! The past 2 nights have just thrown me off so bad.

First, I went to the gym last night and was doing some toning with Andrea and Simon and POP POP goes my left knee. I have already been having problems with it for a while now and need to get it checked out but i havent had the time.

Then today, all of a sudden, I got this overwhelming 105 degree fever and my throat closed off and I couldnt breathe. It hit me like a ton of bricks and within seconds of the initial sickly feeling. I fell to the floor trying to talk and couldnt. So then, of course I paniced and it made it worse! I have NEVER been that frightened in my life. I now know how people felt when being suffocated. It's the most horrifying, helpless and awful feeling I have ever experienced in my life. I wouldnt wish that upon even my worst enemy!

So the paramedics came and my initial blood pressure was 200/78 and then dramaticly started dropping the more I was able to breathe and calm down. The took vitals and gave me oxygen. The last blood pressure they took was 188/78 and my vitals looked good so they gave me the option to go to the ER or go to my family doctor. I chose my family doctor! So, all he concluded was that it could have been one of 2 things, A. I built a tolerance to my sinus infection antibiotics and that is how my body reacted or B. I had an asthma attack. So he drew some blood (eeew!) and now I have to wait it out.

My co-workers are worried sick and so sweet how they immediately re-acted and helped me calm down. They may have even potentially saved my life according to the paramedics. If I wouldnt have calmed down, I could have lost conscience. So I am so blessed to have so many people who care about me! The bad news is, my knee needs an MRI and he wont let me work out until I get it. Go figure, Friday is my appointment. He also said I couldnt work out until after we get my results! So I am pretty upset that this is the last week of the show and I cant work out!

I thought I would share this horrifying event and the sad news that I may not lose weight at weigh in. But I wont let this get me down. I am still going to figure out a way to do some type of exercise!

    Love, Michelle  (The Drama Queen!)
