So I hear the Spurs and the rest of the NBA crank up training camp this week, huh? Zzzzzzz..
Hey, I'm all about the NBA in February, March..and certainly in June. But on October 1st? Please. How can we talk or even think about the Spurs repeating when its Texas-OU week? When the Dallas Cowboys are 4-0 for the first time since 1995? When the Texans...oh wait, maybe I could get up for some Spurs talk if it meant ignoring the Texans.
Anyway, I've read your emails, taken your phone calls on the Spurs so-called moves this summer. Lets see. They are bringing back their core and the rest of the secondary players from a team that won the NBA championship 3 months ago. I don't think they've forgotten how to shoot, pass, or defend. I also think the idea of repeating will be enough motivation, but I also think 82 games is too long of a season when you live and die with each win or loss. Trust me, the Spurs don't count wins or worry about standing until at least the All-Star break.
Here's my suggestion....enjoy the first 3 months, and notice trends--not wins or losses. Watch how they match up against the Suns, the Mavs, and the usual suspects in the NBA. Watch how Tony responds to a summer of craziness, and how the team's "other" MVP responds to a summer of changing diapers (Tim is now a father of two!). Watch what Robert Horry has in the tank for a final season....wait, Horry doesn't play until mid-May--Ok, that's going to have to wait.
Bottom line--relax, and lets not use the words repeat or dynasty until about April. Otherwise, I think we will all just talk ourselves to sleep.
