It's October

I know I live in a place where football is king, where the Spurs are trying to cement themselves as a dynasty.

But when the calendar turns to October, it also means the baseball playoffs.

And this year's baseball playoffs are the most compelling in recent memory.  How about the two hottest teams to finish the year trying to see who remains hot enough to get to the NLCS?  The Rockies finished the season winning 14 of 15 including one of the most dramatic baseball games I've ever seen in that one game playoff for the wild card.  The Phillies won 13 of their last 17 and ran past the Mets who had a 7 game lead.

How about reversing the curse?  The Red Sox did it on '04, the White Sox did it in '05...is it the Cubs year?  While this year's edition has the fewest amount of wins of any team in the National League, it's also been the best chance they've had since the Bartman game of '03 to win their first World Series since 1908.

How about East vs West?  The best team in baseball all year has been the Boston Red Sox, and the Angels haven't been that far behind.  Can Vladimir Guerrero get past his post-season slide and lead Anaheim (or whatever they call themselves these days) back to the World Series?

And last, how about the Yankees?  A team that was left for dead in May easily won the Wild Card, and got a break catching Cleveland in the first round.  The Yankees were 6-0 against the Indians in the regular season, but the fans at the Jake by the Lake, as will a lot of fans around baseball, will be rooting hard against the pinstripers.

Not a stinker in the bunch.  It's October, baby.
