We Got Spirit...Yes We Do!

I'm going to cut to the chase here....How much Spurs spirit is, well...too much?

I'm on my way to work today, and I see a car decked out with Spurs flags, and shoe polish that reads "4 for 4...Champs".  True statement.  The Spurs are the reigning champs, and they have 4 titles.

But October 4th?  Flying the flags?  I think fans should go by the team's rules.  Celebrate the title, enjoy the summer--even into early "fall".  But once training camp starts, shouldn't fans take down the flags, and wash off the shoe polish?  I mean, gosh..its not even a (preseason) gameday.

I can hear you...WE'RE THE CHAMPS.  We'll celebrate until the Spurs are no longer considered champions.  Technically, that's true.  But its not like have the spirit items are permanent.  At least, I hope not.  Although, some of you Spurs fans have probably considered spray painting your car on title night.  Either way, don't the car and house decorations come down once the new season begins?  Tshirts, hats, coffee mugs--those are completely different.  Afterall, if you pay $30 for a tshirt, you should be able to get your money's worth.  But shoe polish?  In October?!

And one more thing...its one thing to fly the '07 car flags.  But isn't there an expiration date on the 1999 flags?

The people still driving around with Spurs flags are probably the same people who don't take down their outdoor Christmas lights until April.  I think once football season starts all basketball signage should come down.

I can see how many people back home in San Anotnio love their Spurs and I must admit I am kinda the same way only I moved 4 hours away and now closer to Mavs territory in West Central Texas and I still have my Spurs stuff hanging inside my house because I know that it urks the heck out of the Mavs fans out this way. I am not ashamed to call the Alamo City Home and I constantly remind people in my community where I'm from and can not wait to go back to San Antonio!

But I can see how the 99 flags can be a tad OUT DATED!! I do not have shoe polish anymore on my car and i did by over 100 dollars in merchandise this time around that I wear becasuse I want to get my money's worth. But I can see your point totally. We as Spurs fans are DEDICATED!!

I think as the new season approaches we should take our championship items down and display only Spurs flags without mentioning of a Title win...I think it is more classy that way and that would still show support for the team but not rub other people's faces in the fact that we hold 4 titles. Come on SA please do not give  Mark Cuban another thing to cry about!! I know we love our Spurs but seriously, there are better ways to show your love than to have a car all decked out when it is not playoffs, much less a Pre-Season Game Night!

I think it is ridiculous too.
The Colts are the Superbowl champs but they received their rings in a quiet ceremony and didn't have to splash their title across every front page once football season geared back up.
Spurs fans almost taunt the losers in a disrespectful way.
Take down your flags and see if they can win a back-to-back championship this year and make it five.
I am not a Spurs fan and I keep telling those that are that the Spurs will NOT win this year because they have to take a year off in between championships.
We shall see...

"I love my Spurs"  I've been a fan since they played in the Hemisfare, since David was a rookie.  I think I'm just as dedicated as the next fan.  But, I only wave my flags and banners during the PLAYOFFS.  Otherwise, I'll wear a team shirt on game day to show my support.  I'll even wear one when they loose.  I can't stand the fans that only show support when they're team is winning.  You've heard the expression,  if they won it's  "WE WON!! WE'RE #1!"  and if they lost, it's "THEY SUCK!!"  But the one thing that concerns me is, people talking about a repeat.  Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE to have the Spurs win a back-to-back.  But, isn't it a little early to be boasting like that?  Just my thoughts.
