Dumb and Dumber: Time Warner and the NFL Network

I'm just as tired of it as you are.  Time Warner says this, the NFL Network says that.  All parties want to give San Antonio access to the Cowboys games, yet it never seems to happen.  Well it needs to happen.  Because we stand to miss the NFC's equivalent of Patiots/Colts.

Ok, maybe it's not going to be the regular season game of the century like it will be when New England plays Indianapolis next Sunday, but it very well could determine homefield and the team to beat in the NFC.

The game: the Dallas Cowboys vs the Green Bay Packers on the Thursday after Thanksgiving.  That's Thursday the 29th of November.  Today is Wednesday the 24th of October.  If, for the second year in a row, Time Warner and the NFL Network fail to get these games on the Time Warner cable system, everyone should just abandon Time Warner cable, and go with a cable system who's actually trying to negotiate.

It's not that it's solely Time Warner's fault.  It's not that it's solely NFL Network's fault.  But collectively, this very public sparring match reeks more of petulance than it does of an actual fight in the interest of consumers.

Why do you think the NFL puts Cowboys games (plural) on the NFL Network? The team has a huge national following, and the hope is that Time Warner (and the few other cable systems who haven't yet) will cave.  Why won't Time Warner cave, or at least negotiate?  I honestly can't answer you that question.  They both seem to be getting nowhere.  Which is why this needs to stop....now.

In a story we aired earlier this week, a spokesman for Time Warner answered a question about whether the situation could be resolved in the next 6 weeks, said, "We could reach a deal in the next six hours."  Well then let's do it.  Let's get it done.  Because right now, both the NFL Network and Time Warner look like Dumb and Dumber.

Screw Time Warner!  Go with DirecTv.  They have the NFL Network and a buttload of HD channels.  Addtionally, their programming packages appear to be less expensive.

Right on Paul!  Direct TV is way better and half the price per month compared to TWC when I had them.

I think Time Warner and the NFL are in it together trying to get more $ out of us. I am getting tired of TW also....their roadrunner internet is nice and fast.....and I pay dearly for it, $45 per month......but if your a new subscriber you can get it for $30 month for 6 months I think.....what about us guys who have had it since it first got here......no deals for those of us that are loyal....

I couldn't agree more Mike.  This situation has gotten out of hand.  Time Warner knows that it can make millions of dollars more off of their subscribers by forcing them to pay an additional fee for the network rather than offering it on their standard service.

I mean they offer Turner Classic Movies on their standard service,  Why?  Because they own TCM that's why.

I'm sure the 150,000 people that went to the Cowboys training camp would much rather see Dallas play Green Bay than whatever black and white movie that will be on TCM.

they put a bunch of that junk in the standard package because no one would by it, I mean if you didn't speak spanish would you order Telemundo?. Sports teams need so many $ to operate they need to pull revenue from somewhere. I see down the road you won't be able to watch the Spurs for free. This is the start.

I'm not even a Cowboys fan.  I'm a fan of a team thats 2,000 miles away.  Which is why I got DirectTV & NFL Sunday Ticket.  Any game, anywhere, anytime.  Well worth it.  As for TW, I dropped that company a long time ago, & will NEVER go back.

Time Warner acts like a typical monopoly.  Not only do they control content on basic digital, they own certain programming, which is why they shove certain channels down our throat while saying we should pay more for NFL football.  Even their ploy to offer the NFL Network on pap-per-view instead of a sports tier comes down to the same logic: the fan should have to pay more.  Excuse me, but pay more than the $75 a month I already pay just so I can watch the Packers and Cowboys? Ridiculous.

I am a New England Patriots fan living in New England. I will not be able to see the final game of the Patriots season. I have spoken to the Corporate office of the NFL and was not happy with my answer. As a result, I will not be spending any more money on NFL apparell until this situation is resolved. I would love to have the NFL network at home, and would be willing to pay $5.00 a month to have it. That is not an option for me, and shouldn't be mandatory for my neighbors. So, to show the NFL that I am unhappy, I am going to stop spending money on products that they would share a profit for. I am encouraging all fans to do the same. I really don't care who is to blame, or who is not negotiating fairly. I just want to watch my patriots games. NFL---no more money for you.

cable is a monopoly, because dish is not a substitute, it's a totally different product.  many apartments charge large deposits for satellites.  satellites have bad reception in inclement weather.  satellite wants you to sign a contract.  satellite doesn't have worthwhile bundling with phone or internet.  it's not as simple as just switch to dish.  plus, where i live, to get cbs in hd, you have to pay $1 extra/month on direct tv.  plus, i don't want an ugly dish on my roof.  cable companies have monopolies, and they know dish is not a subsitute, so they will never cave until you or i can choose a different cable company.

the nfl network is to blame. To put the cowboys on nfl network solely because they know it has a large national fan base in the hopes people will complain is sickening. after the 16 games are over the nfl network is useless to me. why have that part of basic cable? nfl network thinks they are bigger than they are. there is a difference between espn and nfl network. nfl network only has nfl, and espn has everything sports related. dont compare the two.
