What can I say except for typical Aggie!  They think they are God's greatest gift!  What kind of school has male yell leaders and no Cheerleaders.  All they can say is WHOOP!  And hold each others hands while they sway together.  I noticed he said A&M has good looking girls.  I've been there, and there were girls, but good looking does not describe them at all.

Hopefully A&M will learn better sportsmanship and quit accusing everybody else as being poor fans.

Has somebody forgotten that this is a GAME!!  There is no need for personal attacks in order to “Pep” you up for a game.  Sports is about fun, not slander.  The guy made a dumb mistake that I’m sure he will learn from.

"He's a college kid," and therefore one ought just to "cut him some slack" when he refers to an opponent's much-revered, longtime head coach as being on his death bed.  Whatever, Mike G--you're an individual who obviously fails to "get" what respect and good sportsmanship involve.  

Its A&M-- why is everyone so surprised??  This insitution teaches a cult like atmosphere in College Station. These Yell Leaders and Corpse of Cadets are a weird bunch of idiots. They have embarrassed the State in the past and it will happen again in the future--mark it down.

First of all, this story was reported in a biased manner, neglecting to mention the consistent rudeness and inappropriateness of some of the Penn State fans (I was at the pep rally). These fans from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania decided to yell "We are Penn State" throughout Texas A&M's allotted "spirit" time where our yell leaders (not cheerleaders - this isn't high school) led the Aggie fans in yells. While one of our yell leaders tried to get the Aggies fired up for the game, the Penn State fans yelled and yelled and tried to take over the pep rally, ruining our time to get pumped up. Aggie fans were respectful and were quiet during Penn State time. Sure, the much-discussed and dramatized yell leader made a mistake and took the heckling too far - but Penn State isn't perfect either. Apologies were made, and the pep rally is over. Move on! Plus, Don Harris, you are in Texas, enough with bashing one of the state's flagship universities. Find something that actually matters to obsess over.

Years ago I was at an A&M / Longhorn game where the two rival bands joined together on the field to show a united front.  Would have been impressive except for the fact that someone on the "upstanding" A&M side decided to grab the UT flag (both flag were being walked onto the field), tear it from it's pole and proceed to stomp all over it - laughing all the while.  If it had only been one person, I could have place the blame on the person, not the institution, but many people joined in the distruction of the UT flag.  I was so absolutely disgusted with the display that I have never thought the same of A&M since.  This just upholds the image of A&M I received that day.

This was clearly uncalled for by the yell leader in question, but to think that all of Texas is like that is nothing but horse manure coming from some snowbird Yankees.  I truly despise A&M, being a UT fan, and that loudmouth should be News 4 Sports Sunday's "Bonehead of the Week", if not "Bonehead of the Year", especially if PSU gives A&M a major-league beating at the Alamo Bowl.

I'm old and get comments like that every birthday. The comments are mostly from my friends and family who love me. No harm done, they're just commenting on my great age and experience. The young man wasn't wishing Mr. Paterno harm, he was just making a joke. Seems some folks look for reasons to become upset.

I am a former student of A&M. I take great offense to what several people have said about this university and the students. I am very proud to be an Aggie. We are not "baboons". We are also not a "cult". The yell leader made a mistake. I am sad that he said those things, as it was a poor choice of words. However, it was said at a pep rally. It sadens me that people get so offended- we have all made mistakes. This young man has been punished. Get over it and  move on with your life. Those comments are not representative of A&M. Most Aggies are very respectful and the best footbal fans you will see. I am sorry to the Penn State fans that were offended, however people need to stop making such hateful comments about the Aggies. If Joe Pop can laugh it off, so should everyone else.

The kid is just that  --  a kid. How many thousands of stupid things are said by college kids on a daily basis - from schools all over the world - that never make the news?
Unfortunate that an entire wonderful and outstanding University gets it's name trashed because a kid popped his mouth off like kids do.
But, he should be removed from the team - bad role model - and bad example.

I am a proud University of Texas fan. I heard one of the aggie fans say "that's not the way aggies are". Well, I beg to differ. I attended the Texas vs A&M game the day after Thanksgiving at Kyle field. We were not worried at first about being visitors until we got there. The aggie fans were rude, obnoxious and many times mean spirited towards us. We were more upset about the way we were treated than about losing the game. I will never attend a game there again!

Everytime something happens, everybody wants resignations and people punished.  Society seems to be getting a little weaker by the problem.

Typical Aggie attitude and typical university, complete with close rank & protect, attitude which has done an impressive job keeping the yell leaders name out of the local and state wide press while sending quickly him out of town.   The yell leader should personally apologize to Coach Paterno like a man instead of running into hiding like a coward. This guy shows that he did not pay attention in elementary school. Build a couple of walls and make them into a corner so that he can sit in it (not able to see the game)with Joe P. working the side line in front of him.

Everybody at A&M will know who this young man is. Some will be like me and Mr.  Paterno, seeing it as no big deal. Others will be insulted and shun him. Either way, I think it's been a lesson learned in political correctness. There's no reason for him to pay for the rest of his life for a silly college lapse of judgement. If he'd said the same thing at a rally in College Station, nobody would've thought anything of it. Because there were Penn State fans there, a molehill has been made into a mountain. His name isn't important, but it will eventually be made public unfortunately. And he doesn't need to be kicked off the team or out of school. He didn't shoot anybody, and Mr. Paterno wasn't harmed or threatened. The boy poked fun at the advanced age of a rival coach, for crying out loud. I'm 60-years-old and see Mr. Paterno as elderly. To a college student, he must seem 10 days older than dirt. They see anybody over the age of 30 as old.

We shouldn't be shocked at what some college person says during a pep rally. In the first place, this jerk is probably in his seventh year of school "working" for his associates degree and being at Texas A&M that means he'll graduate with honors!

You all might need to sort of shut up about this silly college business.  A lot of my school buddies had to go to A&M, and they turned out all right.  One of them went to the pen for running over a kid while he wars drunk, but he served his time and he's now serving the public in Austin.  Another good buddy is a doctor now, and we all mistakes from time to time, what is the deal?  My best girlfriend is now a vet, and I held my best dog's paw while she put him down.  They're all good people.  A&M is one of the best universites out there, really.  My dad was a grduate.

Other than service academies, A&M provides the United States of America with more commissioned officers than any other school. That would be those guys over in Iraq and other countries devoting, and in too many cases giving, their lives in service to their country. A&M is among the top 10 public universities in enrollment of National Merit scholars. I wouldn't hang my head if I were an Aggie.

Should we discuss the pictures taken at the Penn State College republican chairman's halloween party? Or what about the football player who raped a fellow student but still got to play? Does that mean that all Penn State students are rapists and bigots? What's more serious, rape or making fun of an elderly man? Penn State thinks it's okay for their rapist to continue representing their school by playing in the Capital One Bowl, but our student was sent home for using words. That's not enough for many of you. He needs more punishment than the public humiliation you people have heaped on him? I think not. People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

What, no comments from the Penn State peanut gallery? Did you all think Texans are too stupid to know about your shame? Let's put things in perspective here. The young man meant no harm, it was said in fun. ALL Texans and Aggies are not ugly, stupid, or ill-mannered. Just as ALL Penn State students and fans aren't rapists or insensitive oafs. Shame on you people who wrote such insults.

As a proud Aggie, I say the young man's comments were totally inappropriate. He was out of line. Win lose or draw on Saturday, I'll still love Joe Pa and my Aggies; nevertheless, they are blowing this one way out of proportion...especially all of you "sore loser longhorns" on this blog...the one's too embarassed to admit they got their behinds kicked by the Aggies the last 2 years.

To be clear, it was the Texas A&M bureaucrats that apologized, not the Yell leader himself.  A different yell leader came out later on and said:  "Uh...Duh...you all have to undertstand that...uhh...duhh...it's all in good fun".  That's no apology at all!

It was a P.R. flak that said that the kid was so upset and he was already packing his bags and he is such a nice kid who wouldn't hurt a fly.  That is a bunch of hogwash...  If you listen to his stupid monologue leading up to the casket line he was calling PSU fans ugly and rambling on about some other rude things.

To all you apologists, is it really no big deal that this rude punk has brought national embarrassment to A&M?  For many thousands the only image they have of A&M is one of representative of the school publicly and viciously insulting an 81 year-old man.  A man who also happens to be a living legend in college football.  That's no big deal, huh?

This kind of atrocious behavior is exactly what we can expect when we allow homosexural gymnasts from A&M, or any school, to get up on a stage in front of people.  Those boys were allowed to prance around and just say whatever they wanted to say.  That is just not the foundation this country was built on.  Those boys will go to Hell, but not from rudeness.  They will roast because they reject the Laws of Almighty God.

The people of this country cannot continue to allow free reign to these followers of the works of Satan.  They just pull more and more folks down with them.

A Pep Rally should be used as an opportunity to come together as Christians in communion with God and each other.  When I was away at SMU we often held prayer meetings after the Pep Rallies because everyone would already be all fired up.  Nowadays, many of these young hellions use these events as an excuse to get drunk and use strong language.  That kind of behavior is offensive to God.  It is a known fact that all men who are cheerleaders are homosexurals.  Adding them to the mix is just a sin and something should be done about it.  I call on our elected officials to fully investigate this matter and do something about it.

It is true that we do have a few baboons at A&M.  In fact, since the advent of Affirmative Action, we have had the most diverse student body in our history.  However the same could be said of most Universities.

To shamelessly state that Aggies are baboons is grossly exaggerated.  Many humans still attend A&M with more enrolling every year.

Hey Penn State Fans:  Welcome to the club of Aggie haters.  Down here in Texas its like living with rodents.  We just sort of get used to them and forget what normal is like.  You guys aren't used to it and we have forgotten what a normal sportsmanlike rivalry can be like (at least until the likes of Nebrask and Penn State come to town).   A while back a poor fan from Utah came down here to watch his team play @ Kyle Field.  He wrote an opinion piece in his local paper.  He felt threatened and like he had just escaped a CULT.  Sound familiar?  For all you Aggie sympathizers.. lay off the kool aide and de-tox. I've seen far worse from Penn State and Tech and nothing was really done about it, but here we have a yell leader being punished properly by his own university and you still want more? And as for you people who are trying to convince everyone else the yell leaders are gay, you need to grow up especially. Because while your schools are parading around stickly scantily dressed girls whose academic credentials are in question (still in highschool anyone?), the A&M yell leaders are completely covered and were chosen because of their fine character traits. People campaigned for these guys for a reason but all you Bigots on this board are stuck in your own little hate-filled world.

A&M's fanaticism and poor sportsmanship has just been revealed on a national stage. In the early '90s some aggie fans literally cut the horns out of the then astro-turf at Memorial Stadium causing tens of thousands of dollars damage.  I don't think it is all of the aggie fans but there is a definite blur of the line between school spirit and fanaticism at a&m.

It appears to me that True Believer is a cheerleader for the Lord.  Now that we know he attended SMU a lot of his carrying on can be explained.  SMU is factory that produces lawyers and the Dallas office boys that live in Oak Lawn.  The women usually get knocked up and marry off before they graduate.

Graduated from A&M.  Love the school.  Think the kid made a mistake.  

More importantly...Coach Paterno is a CLASS ACT!!!!  We should all learn a thing or two from him!

This is typical behaviour on the part of A&M fans, I don't know why everyone is so shocked, they have been very condescending and arrogant for years...my apologies to the "old school" aggies, as this is NOT directed towards them, but in the last 20 years it seems the character and class at A&M has fallen off a cliff...

Well, I am sorry to say that I am disappointed in the reaction this has all generated.  As far too many of us know, words once spoken cannot be brought back.  My son is a fish at A&M this year and I am learning all about the ‘Spirit Of Aggieland’.
I know that this was not meant as an personal attack, it was a yell practice. As in all pep-rallies, things are always said about the apposing team.
Coach Joe…  your team played an excellent game.  I met several of your fans at the game and we had a great time together.  As your reaction to the comment shows I am sure we will see you here in our great state again.  
I will say this…  our yell leader’s comments were made about a man who is alive and well and it appears has a great sense of humor.   I wish I could say as much about the students that wore the VT costumes…  In the interview they stated that they had to push the envelope for shock value. I am sure that since the interview that young man has had an opportunity to rethink his comments and probably realizes the insensitivity of the words used that day.  He will think before he speaks next time, just like our yell leader will.  

I went to A&M for 2 yrs, and the people are right that Aggies as a whole are extremely arrogant, disrespectful, and neurotic about their school spirit garbage.  They are the ones that need to chill out and get a grip on reality.  This dude just got carried away with it, like most of them do.  But you can be in Aggieland, he's a hero.  School officials saying they're embarrased is all politics.

I graduated from A&M in 1987, and I was mortified that someone...especially a Yell Leader who should be the keeper of good sportmanship...would be so rude and embarrass his school in such a manner.  Joe Paterno is and always will be a legend of college football.  Congratuations to him and the Penn State Nittany Lions on their win at the Alamo Bowl!

I do think what this kid said was pretty rude and tastless, and yes, it does embarrass me, an Aggie.  But I also think all of this is blown way out of proportion.  The guy was up on stage, being boo'ed, and he said something stupid that I'm sure he probably wishes he could take back.  

I'm not trying to defend what he did as being ok.  But the thing is, it is MEANT to be all in fun.  Was it stupid... yes.  Was it tasteless...yes.  And I could probably make a list of stupid and tasteless remarks made by representatives of just about every major school in the country if I wanted to.  Nobody's perfect.  This kid isn't perfect.  We all make mistakes, but you know, it's what you learn from them that really counts.

As far as A&M fans, do Aggies talk trash?  Sure they do.  Just like Nittany Lions, Longhorns, and fans from just about every other school.  Why?   BECAUSE IT'S FUN! And I'm sure I speak for 99.9% of all sports fans.  Sure there's the 1/10th of 1% that actually really do wish ill will on others and take things WAY too far, but they sure aren't limited to just one school.  I'm sure this Yell Leader didn't wish any ill will towards Joe Paterno.  No, I'm not trying to make excuses for him.  It was wrong to say what he did.  I just don't think he meant any harm and it doesn't make him (or all aggies by default) terrible, classless people.  Are Aggies a little different?  Sure, I'll be the first to admit that.  In fact, we are proud to be different.  If people want to point fingers and call us stupid because we are different... who's really the bad guy here?

Do fans of all schools get a little carried away sometimes.  Yes.  Throwing crap, pulling a sword... yeah, those are good examples.  Again, I could get a list together with just about any school at the title.  Is cutting the horns off the longhorn at the turf a good example of this.  Sure is.  I also notice that what didn't get mentioned (whether intentional or not), is that that particular act was in retaliation for the nice orange paint job given to our 12th Man statue and other parts of the campus.  Does it make it right?  Certainly not.  But I just can't see the logic in the "Aggies are classless because they cut the horns off our field just because we went and put a bunch of orange spray paint on their statues and buildings".  Both acts were pretty much equally stupid.

The reason A&M fans do think they are 'classy' fans is that we pretty much know our intent.  Yes, we are probably a little more intense than fans of other schools, but that is because we are proud of our school.  We may yell and talk alot, but it is meant in good fun.  Sometimes people carry things a little too far, sure.  But if a Longhorn, or a Nittany Lion, or a Red Raider, etc, cried 'help me' when they were around a bunch of aggies, I can guarantee a bunch of aggies would be there to help them.  And to be honest, I can't say I've felt that attitude towars me in some of the places I've visited (namely LSU, Tech, and Austin.. in that order).  Then again, that may just be the view from the other side.

One of my best times in college came at a spring break baseball tournament.  We were playing Kansas St., and the entire game we did nothing but taunt and heckle the Kansas St. players.  And then you know what happened afterwards?  We ended up taking several of them to the Chicken for a beer and had a great time.  They said they had more fun in College Station than any place they had ever played before.   Gosh, and to think that they could have just gotten all pissed off because they were being taunted and went home talking about how classless Aggies are.

Is it all stupid?  Maybe.  But next time you are in college station and an Aggie starts yelling at you and talking trash, smile at him and ask him for one of his beers.  He'll most likely be happy to have him sit down and join you in a little trash talking.

As a Penn Stater, I want to say that Texas A&M fans demonstrated great class during the Alamo Bowl.  My wife, daughter, and I enjoyed Texas hospitality immensely.  As for the "yell leader"....he simply made a error in judgment.  No harm.  Apology accepted.  Let's move on.
